Who are you because you sure don’t sound like a City employee or someone who cares about the state of the City. If you did you would be hoping beyond hope that a resolution to the financial crisis could be found.
The City each day that it delays a decision with the ERIP goes $1M further into debt…bankruptcy looms…and with it the cancellation of ALL, yes all, City contracts which includes every single MOU in the City.
Don’t kid yourself, unless you are Robert Aquino, you will not enjoy the lifestyle you’ve become accustom to as a City employee if it does come to that.
I should note that the only other viable option I can see is if LACERS on their own voluntarily opens a 45 day window that lowers the retirement age to 50 w/NO penalty for all pre-1983 employees – no add on of years, nothing…if you are 50 and have 28 years…then your retirement is based on that 28 years, etc.
By doing that they may get some of the 2,400 they are looking at getting off payroll, in addition the City would not be subsidizing the pre-1983 employees who currently only pay in 2 percent into retirement. But again that is about the closest to keeping the City from going broke and still offering a win both to long time employees and NEW employees who fear losing their jobs.
