LA City Council repeats layoff & furlough threats for la city workers after lapd & civilians made major concessions.
Encore Encore.
It worked for the governor running up the furlough hours on State workers, it worked with LA Cityworkers threatening to Lay them off in mass or bankrupt the city.
After making major concessions last year LA City Workers are facing more threats of layoffs and furloughs in the coming budget year the very same ones we warned of last month and now the council has swung into action.
Facing a projected 190+ million shortfall, the council has looked at tightening it’s belt not by cutting pork but slashing it’s workforce.
Shame that LA Residents and businesses continue to pay their taxes and the council has done nothing but look at the easiest fix.
It is bad, all bad. LA needs it’s workforce, it needs us in order to perform the tasks that are required and the public deserves better.
Few if any workers are willing to accept more layoffs and furlough hours not because they are selfish although paying the mortgage and putting food on the table are important, it’s the simple fact we were lied to, the DWP obtained a nearly 20% increase while the city cried the financial blues, Fee Waivers and job outsourcing increased all during the same time in which EAA members took an 8 hour furlough period, MCIA Inspectors were slammed with 16 hours per pay period, and Coalition members felt the pain of NO raises and no cash overtime for majority of members and still swallowed up 3.5 hours of furloughs.
Immediately we need to show the value of our service, private contractors stand at the ready to swallow up the slack not because we are slacking but because the bribes cash payouts or “donations” are at the ready.
We aren’t sold out for better public services or for any other reason.
Federal Investigators need to jump on investigating the Davey tree trimming contracts as well as many others we all remember one councilman last year nearly bit the bullett for his involvement in pay to play how many more are out there?
Street Use Investigators are Prohibited from enforcing blatant violations against private contractors who feel they are above the law because of their strong ties to city hall.
Private contracting can’t work in LA that easily and the cost savings would be minimal.
SEIU, Coalition of City Unions, MCIA, and everyone else stand FIRMLY against Any Givebacks. We will not risk the future of our workers for false promises from politicians to ignorant to cut back on non essential city services.
We need to Call our unions and make our intentions clear, we will NOT be saving any jobs if we keep taking cutbacks. NO LAYOFFS will happen until every single one of the positions in DWP, Airports, and Harbor are back-filled with General fund employees and if their classification does not allow transfer then they will be retrained using federal stimulus money.
If we don’t stand for something we will fall for anything.
Reprint this Post it on every cubicle, public counter and every single elevator.
Demand your general managers quit catering to council to save their own neck and prepare for a fight.
Council chambers Will be rowdy we will be loud and we will not stand for anything other then 100% of our current contracts standing as is.
If the council wants to turn Los Angeles into a third world country they will have to do it by going through us first.
We need to demand our union leaders from the LAPPL to the coalition and EAA come together and work in solidarity.
CAO loves to pitch us against each other we need to walk out on him and refuse to meet unless he faces the facts, council will have to find another way.
Job Actions are on the way from blue flus and more stay tuned, this fight is real they want us to give back 16 hours per payperiod – 240 hours for the entire month of June.
