EAA Executive Director Bob Aquino challenges Board of governors for referendum on his future.

EAA Executive Director Bob Aquino challenges Board of governors for referendum on his future.

Should I stay or should I go now? Bob Aquino

If I go there will be trouble & if I stay it will be Double.

EAA Leader Bob Aquino blasted the elected board of governors going directly to the members laying it all out on the line.

In an email sent directly to the EAA Members,  Mr. Aquino reportedly laid out the obvious,  EAA will continue to be raided by SEIU,  City Management is much cozier with SEIU and Julie Butcher then EAA,  and that he wants the membership to decide his fate and their future.

Below are the referendum questions as reportedly posed by Bob Aquino,

Should your Board of Governors immediately negotiate termination to Executive Director Aquino’s contract, and hire a new Executive Director in an effort to establish better rapport with City management?
OR
Do you support keeping Executive Director Aquino through the end of his contract in August of 2011?

What is not mentioned in the email according to sources familiar with EAA is that in order to terminate the contract Aquino has, EAA would be on the hook financially for a very large amount of severance which has caused the cash strapped union & the board of governors to hold off on any action resulting in a large expenditure.

So the real questions are;

Is Aquino really to blame for the missteps during the raid?

Is EAA a sinking ship ripe for a takeover by SEIU?

Do Members realize just how many bad choices the board of governors made during the raid essentially handing over the election to SEIU?

When EAA members face certain decertification attacks from SEIU, the City of LA is determined to fight EAA at every turn, and the budget picture looks grim, who would want to stay?

Should the members have the right to decide on ending the contract of their executive director without interference from the board?

Can EAA afford to terminate Aquino, & is he willing to negotiate the amount of severance?

Whichever way it goes, disclosure is needed on both sides, Aquino must disclose his severance package, and the governors need to step up and take responsibility for their failures during the raid, EAA members will soon enough decide they want the security of a larger union and the bargaining power of SEIU unless EAA steps up it’s game.

If the remaining governors aren’t smart enough to realize they are in a war, maybe the referendum needs to be should EAA members clean house completely?

With the departure of Michael Davies, EAA leadership is struggling for direction, it’s time for the members to decide their future, and they had better decide quickly.

An open letter to City of Los Angeles Public Works employees in the Bureau of Street Services.

An open letter to my fellow Bureau of Street Services & Public Works employees,

As BSS employees, we have a duty to empower ourselves and to protect s our bureau  from any takeover or shortchanging.

Effective IMMEDIATELY; all employees in the bureau shall notify the public of the real reason their streets are not repaired, the Council member picks the streets in their district that get done normally based on campaign contributions, Taxpayers need to know this!

Our director needs our back, we need to circle the wagons and make sure we fight the fight alongside him.

I will not allow our working conditions to change for the betterment of the Council who shortchanges us every chance they get; we sweep, repair, and resurface an area of 465 square miles in the City of LA,

It’s time we get our due, along with Street Tree responsible for one of the largest urban forests in the world, and Sanitation who services nearly 3/4 of a million homes and over half a million apartments Every Week!

We handle the Storm water and Sewer systems serving nearly 4 Million People!

Understaffed, Furloughed, demoralized, yet we show up everyday and we do our jobs, we do them so well we do not miss a beat and take a second out to see how good a job we do

We make life live able for nearly 4 million people every single day, and for this thankless job we earn a good living, we occasionally get recognition from the public, but we don’t recognize ourselves how important the services we provide are, without us the City of Los Angeles CAN NOT function.

From the Harbor to the Valley We get it done!

It’s time we remind those who take us for granted just how important we are, to my fellow brothers and sisters working hard everyday in Public Works, Thank You!

Keep your head up, We WILL BE victorious in this fight.

LA City Unions Early Retirement Allegedly Passed, Here comes the fun!

SEIU Mission Accomplished

SEIU Mission Accomplished

SEIU Claimed (1) Victory and that all MOUS  approved the deal, this is still in question, and that the Early Retirement has Passed.

What does this mean for the workers of the City of Los Angeles?

How can this deal be passed if ALL unions have not completed their vote count?

What is in store for remaining workers if this deal is finally approved?

First, if 2400 People don’t retire, the union must find a solution to that problem and fix the shortfall layoffs will be the only tool left and that will be immediate.

Second,  the City of LA must begin to address the new Unfunded liability in the LACERS plan, this could cause a 100 Million shortfall triggering the Layoff clause in the contract, and finally all it takes is the layoff of one worker, How tempting would it be to layoff one worker on June 30,2011 before our first raise is due? SO they pay us our raises we were due and screw us out of the rest of the deal.

Third, Lawsuits, Count on them.  Hopefully people retiring don’t actually plan on spending their bonus money anytime soon, because Lawsuits can drag on long after many of these workers will have moved on to greener pastures.

Fourth, Bankruptcy, the very tempting relief from all those debts, retirees medical, our medicals, new employees will most likely be switched to defined benifit plans shortly, which would completely eliminate the possibility of current workjers ever enjoying any retirment boost similar to what current retirees will enjoy.

Finally, Workers will be making less, while those who retire early, will Enjoy a 3% Cost of living raise next year and every year for the rest of their life.

Almost forgot, for those who might not have remembered not only will the furloughs hit you very soon, so will the New State Tax Rate.

Glad we have a raise to count on in Two years.

Final Certified Results will be posted as soon as they become available.
