Official LA City Attorneys Board Election Results

LACAA Members held an election for board members on Monday November 14th, 2011.

At stake 6 seats on the board that represents City Attorneys in the LA City Attorneys Association.

Members voted and have overwhelmingly said NO to further concessions and elected a strong leadership to guide them into future negotiations ready to challenge the CAO and fight on behalf of their members. Members said NO to corporate union slates and sent a clear message they will make no further concessions, and will fight to protect every members rights to fair compensation and benefits.

Members in 6 out of 7 races selected peers who would best represent them and their interests for years to come.

Only one race for civil director was not decided according to the bylaw requirement of more then 50% pitting seasoned attorney Bob Unruh against Amy Brothers who was part of the losing slate sympathetic to making more concessions.

Members will look at the facts and decide the race for civil director representative based on the future needs of themselves and their families as the concessions begin to take their toll on Coalition members struggling to make ends meet with no relief in sight.

Members need to take into account what electing representatives who are eager to make concessions will do to their future legal standing. Electing someone who would, as all previous Coalition contracts have, waive the members right to sue would be disastrous to the LACAA membership.

After having stood firm against the CAO, protected the members from illegal and painful permanent takeaways, and refusing to make detrimental concessions current board members and new faces receive our full support and endorsement to serve the members of the LACAA for another term.

Don’t be fooled by propaganda led by disgruntled former board members backed by SEIU who seek to destroy the LACAA. Some former board members worked to deceive the attorneys of LACAA membership and were removed by a democratic vote and now some seek to gain control of the board to turn over the members to SEIU.

LACAA has been a model of transparency and no union within the city has been more responsive to the needs of its membership.

Untold hours of uncompensated time was spent by the president and other board members meeting with the CAO and his staff in attempts to hammer out a good deal for LACAA members, the Office of the CAO engaged in unfair and illegal bargaining and those issues are currently being challenged.

This is not a time to switch leaders when future attacks are guaranteed on the health care, benefits, and salary of the LA City Attorneys.

This is why we fully support Oscar Winslow, Mark Lambert, Ann Rosenthal, Garcelle Embry, Bob Unruh, Onica Cole, and Chris Bobo for election to serve on the board faithfully.

Please make sure to vote as your future depends on it.

LA City Sanitation Mimi Soto SEIU Rep In The Doghouse

What happens when you lie to the members?

What happens when you tell members so called  facts about a contract that’s up for

Mimi Soto SEIU 721

Mimi Soto In the Dog House

ratification and they turn out to be flat wrong?

What happens when LA Cities Director Julie Butcher is sitting there holding her hand and makes no corrections?  We all know just how much Julie Butcher has to gain from this along with her partners Cheryl Parisi and Alice Goff, well At today’s Sanitation meeting at the SEIU 721 Local Mimi Soto was called out on her alleged lies and misdeeds to the point that she stormed out of the meeting and told the members to get their own information.

When asked how the members of  Sanitation/Street Services could hold a second election to correct the errors like MOU 18 was allowed she told them to “get a petition with 1700 members to sign” wow very very interesting to hear that she still can’t tell the truth to the members since the margin of defeat was only around 100.

I think the ONLY remedy SEIU 721 has is to immediately order a new election for MOU 04 since so many members of Sanitation were forced to vote on a contract they were completely misled on.

According to Sanitation Members they were promised:

  • Cash Overtime
  • Retirement contribution’s ended after 3 years
  • Cash Bonus was delayed (not eliminated)

and many more outright lies by some Union Staff and elected officials.

They were not provided the Contract they were voting on, and finally Today Mimi Soto stated flat out that she “Was Mistaken” on numerous contract facts when confronted.

Mistakes are small, telling outright lies about contract facts you have or should have had is not and the members were furious.  MOU 04 is now one step closer to a second election then ever before.

Dave Sanders, Julie Butcher, Mimi Soto, and the executive board have days to correct this egregious error. Hopefully we can upload the recordings of her meeting next week for all to enjoy.

Member Driven is gaining ground. I wonder how SEIU 721 attacking this website is working out for them? Looks like we still remain the best source of information for LA City Workers considering the unions are often “mistaken”.
