CITY CIVILIAN EMPLOYEES TO CONTINUE SHUTDOWN OF CITY SERVICES IN WALKOUTS.

Civilian Employees Job Actions July 1,2010 Crippled LA City Services.

In response to the City of Los Angeles Contractual Violations, Illegal furlough implementation, and layoffs Coalition of City Unions represented employees responded by staging a Job Action  on July 01,2010

This Job Action covered numerous departments and crippled LA City Services.

“After reviewing records, in our first job action with advance notice we crippled LAPD dispatching, reduced the number of sweeping routes, reduced illegal dumping removal by half, and numerous other services were slowed, reduced, or completely eliminated on July 01,2010.”

We look forward to showing our worth in our next job action which will involve more classifications and will bring the message home to the council people. No further advance warning will be given to the city, and job actions will be planned to achieve maximum impact.

Coalition of City Unions are prohibited from Officially Backing Job Actions, Employees are still highly encouraged to participate.

Communications Director Paul Castro said, “Union employees are the heart and soul of LA, our Council members and mayor have chosen to increase fees and taxes on the public at the same time they cutback the services people are paying for, it’s inexcusable, we have a contract in which the city must attempt to bond around the loss prior to implementing furloughs and layoffs yet they have ignored our contract and issued pink slips to our members, we are a dedicated workforce and we will now be bringing the fight to the council unless we see an end to the furloughs.”

Currently more then 20,000 civilian workers are employed by the City of Los Angeles and are subject to up to 26 furlough days.

Without Civilian workers disruptions assured thursday. Furlough FLU.

Time to play?

When the Los Angeles Lakers Defeat the celtics on thursday night will the LAPD be able to handle the massive crowds without civilian workers?

WIth a sickout of 911 dispatchers, traffic officers, street service employees, and other civilian classifications threatened with furloughs and layoffs, the LAPD & LAFD will be short handed undermanned and unable to handle the aftermath of an LA Victory.

The time has come to bargain with the CAO, hardball needs to be played and civilian employees should be organized to shove back with force on Thursday 06/17/2010.

All Civilian Employees should call in sick and obtain a Dr.s note for the stress and sickness furloughs bring will be to much to report for work on that day.

Detention officers, Police Service Reps, Sanitation Public Works & Traffic Officers Should all abandon the City on that day and full media attention will be drawn to our plight.

Abuse by the city & the CAO has gone to far they have the money, Pay much more for medical, give up salary, it is to much and we already gave.

We are so easily furloughed & laid off, let’s see how valuable we are when Sworn employees are the only ones to report for duty.

The Call is going out let’s organize among ourselves and push this to all members, beggin the council won’t get it done, Hardball Blue Flu’s work as our brothers in blue have shown time and time again, IBEW & DWP simply turned out the lights and asked the Mayor if it was hot enough without the A/C in their dispute, We can do it!

Work-site leaders should be in contact with us to ensure the proper dissemination of information.

Kaiser members can receive documentation of illness over the phone, blue cross members MUST visit there urgent care office or follow the procedures directed by their medical practitioner.  Only those who are feeling ill from furloughs or any other illness should participate in this action. You need not report anywhere to hold up signs, or anything else, all you have to do is stay home!

Your Union can not tell you to participate, although they may approve of the actions, they can’t officially tell you to participate per our contract which the city likes to violate.

Again regardless of classification, Thursday 06/17/2010 starting with the first AM shift until 6/18/2010 all Civilian workers should Stay home if they are ill.

This is our only opportunity to demonstrate our power.
